Mystery of Missing Man Terrance D. Brown

Writer: Mary MurphyMary Murphy

Terrance D. Brown

His gaze commands your attention, as soon as you see the Missing Person poster from the New York State Police on Long Island. Terrance D. Brown, 44, has a neatly trimmed, salt and pepper-colored beard with short hair. So what happened to him?

The New York State Police released his flyer Tuesday on its website and Instagram page.

Brown's 2015 VW sedan was parked on the right shoulder of the Robert Moses Causeway near the Main Span Bridge. Because of all the coverage I've done on the Gilgo Beach serial killer case, I've traveled many times over the span and the Great South Bay, which leads to Oak and Gilgo Beaches on the barrier island.

I have wondered why state police investigators did not release details about where Terrance Brown is from--or where he was last seen, so I reached out to Troop L in Suffolk County Thursday evening and made a request to the public information officer. I received a response from the trooper that she would try to get more background on his case.

Writers on Instagram shared their thoughts on the state police mystery:

@6foryrthoughts wrote, "There's more to this story. Can't report an adult missing without Background story. Tell us."

@thedasilvaeffect posted, "Check the water & the surrounding areas. Lots of brush and shrubbery."

@dominoeffect1203 asked the obvious, "Helicopter search?"

One commenter wondered about surveillance cameras on the bridge, especially near the spot where Brown's car was parked. Another speculated Brown's VW could have been left near the bridge to throw police investigators off.

As I post this, I am hoping to find out more information about Terrance D. Brown, so we can better understand his back story.
